Case Studies

Cecilia Stamp

Cecilia wanted to create these rings inspired by Glasgow architect Alexander “Greek” Thomson. She sent me some line drawings which I adapted into the repeating units to make up the rings, adjusting the scale slightly so the pattern would match up with itself seamlessly. We discussed thickness and dimensions that would work best for casting, and I created the models based on this.

Once we had finalised the design Cecilia was able to send the 3D file to a casting house to be printed, cast, and have a mould made so she could make a small batch for a special project. These satisfying rings can be worn separately or stacked together.

Ailsa Ritchie

Ailsa got in touch with me to create this bespoke engagement ring to fit specific diamonds she had sourced. She had designed this art deco style ring with her client, agreeing on the style and arrangement of the stones. Then she sent me the specific stone measurements so I could build the model to fit.

She sent me a drawing with different views and sizes annotated and I built a 3D model of the ring in Rhino, making some small adjustments to allow for optimum casting and stone setting. I created a photorealistic render for her to present to her client and a 4-view drawing for her own reference. Ailsa was then able to send the print ready 3D file to a casting house who used their specialist 3D printer to print the model in wax. This was then cast in gold using the traditional lost wax casting process.

Jane Harrison

Jane designed this fun pendant to appear as a whole orange when hanging but splitting into two halves revealing engraved heart and sun details. She sent me lots of sketches of the orange shape, how the halves should come together, the leaf detail and orange texture.

I created the little heart and sun shapes in the 3D model to appear as engraving when cast. The texture on the outside of the orange was created in the same way. I provided Jane with a print ready 3D file she could send to her casting house to print and cast in silver. The jump rings were included in the model and casting so that the pendant was ready for Jane to attach to a chain after cleaning up and polishing the castings.
